Brunel @ Home (68-10 Win, Cup match)

Another match that came with live updates from our twitter, not that they were particularly informative other than keeping the score updated... This was our first game in the BUCS cup and KCLWRFC were more than ready for it. Brunel had asked for uncontested scrums prior to the game, boring we know, especially when we've been winning the majority of scrums recently. Thankfully this didn't affect our performance and mindset.

The first try came fairly early on from El, showing her pace, power and footwork (I can't believe I'm saying this about a forward). Alice's first then followed with a storming run. Our dominance in the breakdown was present early on and our forward power allowed Lynn to get a try close to the posts. Harriet was next up to score, taking the time to put it between the posts making Alice's conversion easy. With 20 minutes gone and the score on 22-0 we looked set for a strong win. However Brunel utilised on a penalty close to our try line to take the score to 22-7. There were a few more chances near their try line that didn't come through as Brunel put their best efforts into defence, however El was able to break the line once again for anther try. At 27-7 we conceded another penalty, this time in Brunel's kicking distance to allow the score to reach 27-10. KCLWRFC had a bit of a talking to and were not allowed to concede any more!

In the second half we knew the game wasn't completely secure yet so continued to up the pace. Joelle got her first try for us and we were on a roll. The backs pulled out some incredible moves and proved themselves to be smart, fast and organised. Anna (their player of the match for us) deserves an Oscar for one of her dummies! Alice was next to get a try and converted it herself. This was promptly followed by yet another for El. Anne-Julie added to the scoreboard (again from a backs move) before El got yet another. Harriet put another 5 points on the board which Alice converted to make it 61-10. With pints promised for everyone by our forwards coach there was another late surge as El got her total to 5 tries, and Alice got the conversion to make the final score 68-10. A massive congratulations to the whole team, with Jenny taking to 10 for the first time, Helena playing 9 in her first match for us and Sara making an incredible move from the backs to the forwards. Everyone really put the effort in and the whole team came off smiling, no just at the win but knowing that they played so well and had so much fun. I'd like to say a special thanks to Brunel who were genuinely one of the nicest, fairest teams we've come up against and we look forward to meeting them again in the league very soon. Well done everyone!
