With 16 players, no forward subs, the morning after Halloween, trekking halfway to Cambridge, rolling in animal feces within the first 5 minutes of the game (sorry girls…), and an unexpected heat wave (quote Liz “I think I might get sun burnt”) the odds were not looking in our favour. But after 80 minutes of everyone giving 100% we managed to proudly secure the win 44 – 12 against Royal Veterinary College.
The game started with clear dominance from KCL securing 4 tries within the first half and allowing only one against us making it 24-5 at half time. We did not achieve this without a fight, however, as RVC were very aggressive in the ruck. This did mean that we lost the ball quite a lot compared to what we should have, even though we were clearly the dominating and ball-carrying team. Nevertheless after half time we took to the pitch again and gave another strong performance. Communication was excellent allowing for some great teamwork between forwards and back. In particular the speed, composure and decisiveness of the backs allowed us to dominate the score line and the breaks in the second half. Special shout out to Fresher Mary-Lys scoring not only her first try but she thought she’d give us 2! Both times making a great run leaving not only the opposition in awe but also us! Also, special mention to sass-queen/dick of the day Chiara for her over emphasized final try, running right to the centre, even making full eye contact with the ref before placing the ball. Post match we all gathered round to enjoy a warm bowl of tomato soup before making the long, cold, and foggy commute back to London. Oh, and no big deal but we’re also currently top of the LUSL league #KCLstrong Forward of the Day: Ellie Back of the Day: Mary Lys Opposition Player of the Day: Ana Dick of the Day: Chiara Tries: Chiara (3), Mary Lys (2), Liz (2), Becky (1), Conversions: Liz (2)
