RVC @ Home (44-17 win)

The final match of the LUSL league was upon us and we knew we needed to win to place where we wanted, and we knew we wanted a good score to finish the league on a high. Thankfully, despite lacking on the player front, we put the effort in and can say we were successful!

The vets proved a tough opposition, with a lot of big and strong players. Their fullback caused us the most problems, especially when she was targeting the smallest players on our team to try and break through our defence. Thankfully our practice paid off and it was only lapses in concentration that led to our tries that we conceded. Once again, some perfectly executed backs moves led to some perfectly executed tries and I'm sure the backs will be getting cockier (as their boots get brighter...). This alongside a large amount of phase play, especially around their try line, led to the rest of our scoreline. We never gave up, at one point the ball was held up twice before we eventually broke through. Credit is due to our in play kicking and handling of their kicks, not often a large feature of the women's game at this level. With a warning about high tackles given to RVC fairly early on it was time for us to put in some big hits and technical tackles. Some of our smallest players such as Helena, Alice and Emily, were schooling the vets in precision dump tackles and taking out their larger crash players time after time. The forwards were somewhat superior in the mauls as they managed to hold up and turn over the ball every time RVC caught it off a restart! If we didn't lose our concentration for those few brief moments then we would have managed a clean sheet I'm sure. And, as I'm president and writing this plus I got given half of the 'dick of the day' award (which I shouldn't have) I will say this: my speed was unrivalled.

Well played ladies. A great win to finish the LUSL league. Time to watch the rest of the results roll in and prepare for Macadam!

Tries - Lilly (4 + 2 conversions), Anna (1), Sara (1), Harriet (2)
Forward of the match - Lynn
Back of the match - Helena
Dick of the day - (Joint) Lilly for 'dropping the ball' and therefore losing the try (it was so a try) & Bethan for elbowing Harriet in the face when setting up for a scrum
