KCL versus the godless scum = one of the biggest rivalries known to London. Everyone was going into the match with the same mindset: take no prisoners. Unfortunately this meant that throughout the early stages of the game both teams were putting in some high tackles and both teams got warned for it. The whole game seemed fairly evenly matched with the majority of play between both side's 22 lines. UCL only managed a breakthrough try from a quick penalty in the first half as we had a rare lapse in concentration but UCL's key players were spotted fairly soon allowing us to wrap them up. A series of strong tackles were made from both sides but KCL then came off worse from the high tackle warning as one of our players got yellow carded as a result just before half time.
In the second half with a player down for 10 minutes we were always going to be struggling against an overlap, and UCL utilised this as we conceded our second try. Our defence did its best and we can take pride in the fact that with a 14 v 15 advantage UCL were only able to squeeze one past us. With 2 tries against us we came back fighting. With some serious power from the forwards (who were winning pretty much every scrum and maul) Anna was able to make it over the try line to get the score to 10-5. Unfortunately UCL had one player with pace who managed to find a gap to comeback with their 3rd try, despite a cracking chase from a couple of King's girls. This game really did consist of some strong rugby all round, a testament to all the improvements we've made over the past fewEveryone fought their hardest and the performance we put in is one to be proud of. The final score, 15-5, could have easily gone the other way with a bit of luck. The best scoreline we've ever had against UCL...so far...!
